Philosophy of Worship
We believe that the entire purpose of worship is to glorify and publish God's name and works to all far and wide. If you visit with us, you will find the music/hymns theological, thoughtful, and joyful (we reject music that is "fluffy" or "man-focussed"); our prayers fervent, reverent, and intentional; and our preaching expositional, Biblical, passionate and emphasizing God's glory. We would not point you out or intentionally embarass you for two reasons. First because we don't like to feel awkward and stared at and we guess you probably don't want to feel that way either. Secondly and more importantly, since we believe worship is about God and God alone, he is our audience and we don't want to point out anyone but Him.
Worship Sunday Morning (11:00 am)
Typically, our morning worship is intentional and reverential. We seek to "Worshp God in the beauty of his holiness." We will begin with a welcome and some announcements and then go immediately into worship with the reading of Psalms, thoughtful songs and music, prayers, and the preaching of God's Word. The preaching of God's Word is the focal point of our service (although we are very intent on the whole of the morning worshp being God-exalting) and a typical sermon lasts around 40-50 minutes.
Generally, the congregation dresses in business casual during the morning worship. We welcome everyone regardless of how formally or informally they are dressed.
Worship Sunday Evening (6:00 pm)
Sunday evenings at 6:00 we either have another worship service or meet in various Bible classes. Generally the fall and winter quarters are classes with activities for children and teens, and the spring and summer are assembled worship services. Our evening worship services are distinct from our morning services and are much more familial, casual and conversational. Often individuals ask questions concerning the Sunday sermon, we sing more congregational songs together, and the sermon is different than the morning's sermon.
Special Worship
The first Sunday of each month we memorialize the death, burial, resurrection and assencion of Jesus Christ our Lord through communion or "The Lord's Supper." During our morning worship service we pause to mediate upon the sacrifice of Jesus Christ using emblems of his sacrifice. Juice or "wine" reminds us of his blood which was shed for us, and bread reminds us of his body which was torn for us. While we believe that these substances are simply pictures of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and that participation imparts no grace to those who eat and drink, we do believe that this is a serious and joyful time of remembrance reserved only for those who are born again disciples of Jesus Christ and those who have committed themselves to following Christ evidenced through baptism. We believe that each person must examine his own heart and conscience before God and then decide how he will participate in this part of our worship.
The third Sunday of each month is a special "Discover Grace" Sunday. If you are interested in visiting Grace to learn more about what we believe and teach, this would be a great Sunday to attend. The service is geared toward understanding the Grace of God as well as the core beliefs of Grace Baptist Church. The Sunday sermon will generally be a Gospel presentation and the music will be geared toward "grace." Following the morning worship service, we desire all visitors to stay and enjoy a lunch prepared by the members of the church. Everyone is invited to stay and to get to know the people of Grace (the heartbeat of our church) and visitors are our honored guests.
